Dungeons and Dragons with Conor.

What is D&D all about?

Hello prospective adventurer, if you don’t know what Dungeons and Dragons is all about, allow me to tell you. Dungeons and Dragons is a collaborative storytelling game, where you and your friends will create your own unique characters with interesting abilities, and backstories, to then take on adventures with, in a land of fantasy and magic.

What you put into D&D is what you get out of it, explore different stories and scenarios at your own pace. Whether you are loud and proud Drama kid or a more reserved individual, this game with unlimited possibilities for improvisation, problem solving and roleplay will have something for you to enjoy at the table with friends.

I first discovered DnD through one of my favourite content creators, when they decided to play the game with their group of friends. It wasn’t their usual sort of content, but I immediately fell in love with the opportunity that the game gave to some of my favourite creators to create and perform as a character of their own creation. This opened up an entire genre of entertainment to me as I discovered that other content creators and even celebrities that I loved had dabbled in the game of DnD.

It didn’t take long for me to try to find a way to play the game for myself and thankfully a friend of mine at university played the game and was willing to run a session for me and my friends. It was magical, I was able to create a character that mixed together the personalities from my favourite movie characters and the magical abilities of the video game characters I always fantasied about being when I was younger.

3 hours later, after investigating a mystery on a small farm that involved setting home alone styled traps for some evil dire wolves and a grand finale that used a magically conjured piano and a bowl of soup to save the day, I was hooked.

Ever since that first game, I have immersed myself in the many worlds of Dungeons and Dragons, from playing in and running some of the pre-written adventures created by the company that owns D&D, to creating my very own worlds for my friends to adventure and play in.

So, 7 years after that first fateful D&D game, I find myself with a wealth of knowledge about the rules and mechanics of the game, an ever-growing collection of crafted miniatures, terrain and props to use at the table and an insatiable urge to introduce new people to this collaborative story telling experience.

What Will a session be like?

Session 1

Your first session in our Dungeons and Dragons campaign will involve a 1 hour character creation session as a group, allowing you to create your own characters, customising everything from their looks and abilities, all the way to their backstories and even the voice they have (if you’re feeling adventurous). Then you will be introduced to the world and setting of this game you will be playing, as well as your character’s first adventure: The Hunt for the Flail Snail, where you and your companions will attempt to find the magical and highly valuable creature known as a Flail Snail, but what you do with it once you find it… that’s a decision only you and your adventuring party can make.

Sessions 2-6

That’s up to you, as after the first session, where the story goes and which colourful characters you interact with are for you to decide; that is the beauty of Dungeons & Dragons: we create the world, but you determine its fate!

So, partnered with Quest Soul Theatre, I hope to give anyone who would be interested the opportunity to sit down at a table with both old and new friends and share a story, one of their own creation, where the possibilities are limited only… by one’s imagination.
