Prop Master among us

Being part of Quest is not just about our acting ability, or the ability to tell a story…some people tell stories through objects.

One of these people is Chris Reavell.

Chris has only just recently joined Quest sessions and has been keeping us informed of his model making skills. Chris joined up with Bromley Little Theatre recently and has been designated the job of making props for BLT’s upcoming show ‘Yellowfin’.

The plot of Yellowfin is an interesting one.

‘The seas are rising.  Britain is lost.  And one day the fish just…went.  If we knew why then we might have the key to make things better; could the secret be found in the last tin of tuna?  If so, what might that tin be worth?
Yellowfin is a coruscating and savage comedy of human folly in the face of the environmental crisis.’

Chris has been busy making beautiful handcrafted props for the show, and we thought this would be a great place to show you his work in progress.

Chris has had to make now only edible tinned tune for the actors to open and eat each night, but also a huge harpoon!!

Chris wrote this of his creative process :

“Much of it you will see even with the tins is still work in progress; four have already been painted, the production harpoon with spear is completed, the next two supporting models are near completion too.

The harpoons are not intended to function (thankfully) yet the mock tin-openers are. These have small bumps on the side to lift the lids off without causing any damage to the rest of the tins unlike the jaws that would.

All the props so far have received praise for their authenticity and realism already.

You will also notice that the Turkish delight (for now) fills in as the tuna steak it will emulate and to be consumed by one of the cast”

We wanted to share Chris’s work because it’s pretty darn cool!

If you have something creative you would like to share with us, email Mercedes at questsoultheatre@gmail.com.

You can catch ‘Yellowfin’ in the Bar at BLT the 20th November to the 24th November. Click the link for details :
