Beginners guide to getting work

Okay, settle in. It has been a CRAZY couple of weeks. But, I’m starting to make things happen, and I wanted to share what’s been going on.

Skills for Life, 30/30 event. May 15th

NETWORKING : I cannot state enough how important this is. You need to get out there and Network. Since I have been meeting people I have found potential Clients and also, potential work colleagues. I found myself teaming up with business’s, getting invited to events, finding new friends AND getting support! I honestly feel overwhelmed with how positive people react to what I’m doing. Knowing other business owners out there makes a massive difference.

Through networking I have managed to book myself TWO festivals, a custom workshop and hopefully a four week project in partnership with a museum. Phew, my feet have hardly touched the ground. It does help to be a chatterbox ( like me ), you do have to channel your inner cheerleader. Networking can be tough, but so far everyone I have met has been lovely.

SELL YOURSELF: I am always filled with doubt about my own abilities, but if I want to really push make ‘this’ happen, I have to believe in myself. Fake it till you make it, you got to be in it, to win it. Those are the sayings I live by.

I make sure that I get my message across, and I follow up with everyone I meet. I also share projects, share my passion and it has led to getting clients. Its slow, but building a lot faster than I thought it would.

BE PROACTIVE: There is a work life balance that needs to be monitored, because I get so involved with what I’m doing, that I find it hard to switch off ( could also be my ADHD ). I always think about how I am going to get my workshops sold, who can I help? Where in my local community can Quest fit in? I love the fact that Drama can be so accessible. I buzz with new ideas all the time…if it doesn’t work, what did I learn? Using the right language is really important too, but that could be its own blog post.

Finally….

BE YOURSELF: You are your business. If you are passionate and believe in what you are doing, others will believe in you. I don’t care if people are not into Drama, I still sell it to them. HA!
