Joe is a Year 12 student at Langley Boys’ School who joined us at Quest Soul Theatre for a week of work experience. Hoping to train as an actor after he finishes school, Joe immersed himself in a wide range of creative wellbeing sessions—supporting drama classes, facilitating at our Connections Café events, and learning about inclusive practice in community arts. From working one-on-one with participants to helping plan and deliver activities, Joe consistently demonstrated empathy, curiosity, and a willingness to learn. His reflections offer a thoughtful glimpse into what he experienced and how the arts can connect us in unexpected ways. Here’s what Joe had to say about his time with us…
“Doing work experience for Quest Soul Theatre for just a week was both an insightful and exciting experience. The ability to not only work with many different groups of people but to also have an impact on their days through drama was amazing to see. Across my week, I took part in two ‘Connections Cafes’, a creative junction and two drama classes. Not only did I get to take part in these, but in some cases, I actually got to offer my own experiences to the class that I hoped were enjoyed by those in attendance! Mercedes and Conor were extremely excited to have me and my friend Rose on board, and their enthusiasm really bled into the class dynamic, for which I have full admiration. I cannot recommend the company enough for anyone looking for a great experience through drama, regardless of their background.”
Joe’s next project is performing in Much Ado about Nothing on the 21st and 22nd July at Langley Theatre. Break a leg Joe.
