Set in the 1930’s, this is a play conveying the diary of an unnamed Lady living in deepest, darkest Devon. It runs at The Bridge House Theatre in Penge from 4th to 15th November.
The cast and author have brought together a funny, charming and sharp play. The cast portray a range of different characters by changing hats and bring each person to life. The silent husband, a son and daughter with their French Mademoiselle, her neighbours Lady Boxe and the Vicar’s wife were a total joy to watch, but whose visits were not always welcome and stayed too long.
The household accounts and juggling of bills can resonate in today’s age. Trips to London and Paris, buying new clothes and moving in writer’s circles gave her an air of sophistication when returning to Devon.
All the cast brought to this performance a superb witty and at times cringe–worthy moments in an adaptation written by Ellie Ward. Rllie as an actress replaced Becky Lumb who unfortunately due to illness was unable to appear as The Provisional Lady Other cast members were Rebecca Pickering as Lady Boxe, Michael Ansley as Jasper Von Nimismeyer, and Alex Foster and Juliet Emmerson Glen as the children.
